What is Tencel™ and Lyocell?

Lyocell is the technical name of the cellulosic fiber that we primarily use. Tencel™ is the brand name for Lyocell from the Lenzing company in Austria.

What is the difference to Lyocell from Asia?

There are differences in price and environmental friendliness. Lenzing's branded product Tencel™ Lyocell only uses wood from FSC or PEFC-certified forests. With no-name fibers from Asia, protected forests can sometimes be cut down. The plants in Asia mainly use coal-fired power, while Lenzing uses wood residues to operate an on-site biogas plant. Every Tencel fiber leaves the factory in Austria in a climate-neutral manner. We rely on the high-quality branded fiber and are also listed as a brand partner on the Lenzing website: https://www.tencel.com/de/brands

What is the difference between Tencel™ and bamboo viscose?

Mainly origin (Austria vs Asia) and the process chemistry. In contrast to the lyocell process, the viscose process uses very harsh chemicals and causes
more waste water and CO2 emissions. In addition, around 50% of the wood for viscose (regardless of whether it is bamboo or not) comes from protected forests and, especially in Asia, the consumer has no chance of understanding where the raw materials come from.
Transparency is important to us and we keep our entire supply chain in the EU.

How does 100% Tencel™ Lyocell feel?

Silky smooth. Lyocell was originally developed as vegan silk. It feels in comparison
softer and fresher on the skin compared to cotton. More like silk.

Does greenaDu differentiate between summer bed linen and winter bed linen?

Our fitted sheets are suitable for both summer and winter. The Tencel fiber is more breathable and has a much better temperature-regulating effect than cotton. This keeps it warm in winter and fresh in summer. Of course, this not only depends on fitted sheets,
but the blanket and the cover are important. Here, too, we recommend products made from 100% Lyocell.

Does the cover crackle?

The crackling and the power surges when making the bed come from the fact that polyester becomes electrostatically charged. We don't use any plastic at all, so no polyester either. As a result, nothing crackles and there are no power surges.

Is greenaDu suitable for allergy sufferers?

Absolutely. First, Tencel is smoother than cotton and won't chafe on sensitive skin. Second, it inhibits bacteria and mite growth more than cotton or polyester. Third, our fabric is completely undyed. This means that no colors or residues can escape here
be present during the dyeing processes. This is the most skin-friendly product design that we can currently imagine.

I don't like mites. Is greenaDu something for me?

Absolutely. Mites grow in dust and damp places. Our fabric is antistatic. This prevents dust from sticking to the sheet. In addition, the moisture is quickly absorbed, passed on and released. As a result, there are no wet spots. These are very bad conditions for mites and the best conditions for your peaceful sleep.

Does the bedding smell of wood?

All greenaDu textiles are odorless. They also stay fresher longer and don't have to be that way
be washed frequently, like cotton.

What certifications do you have?

Every single size is certified as climate-neutral by Climate Partner. The fabric is OekoTex
Standard100, MadeInGreen and FkT (community for the promotion of body-friendly textiles)
certified.

What exactly makes you unique?

There are of course other suppliers of 100% Lyocell fitted sheets. So far we have
no other fitted sheets found that are completely plastic-free and climate-neutral
are certified.

Why do your products cost more than cotton alternatives?

High-quality cotton bed linen sometimes costs more than €300 and does not even offer the hygiene and skin-feel of 100% TencelTM Lyocell. The cotton sheets in the cheaper range are produced in large quantities at the expense of the environment and people and are also of cheaper quality. So no alternative if you are looking for quality, skin-friendliness and sustainability.

How do you calculate the CO2 savings of your textiles?

The CO2 emissions are calculated together with Climate Partner according to the GHG protocol. We calculate the emissions for our product and then see how the emissions change if we swap the fabric for a dyed cotton jersey of the same weight. The difference is the number you see under Impact.

How do you calculate the water savings of the textiles?

The water saving is calculated from the values of Felgueiras et al. derived:

Felgueiras C, Azoia NG, Gonçalves C, Gama M and Dourado F (2021) Trends on the Cellulose-Based Textiles: Raw Materials and Technologies. Front. Bioeng. biotech. 9:608826.
